Ultrasound – Guided Sampling

Overview

Ultrasound guidance allows to precisely and safely take samples from organs, masses, or lymph nodes anywhere in the body, most commonly within the abdomen. This minimally invasive technique improves accuracy while reducing the need for more invasive procedures, helping to obtain essential diagnostic information with as little stress as possible for your pet.

Ultrasound guidance allows to see the needle in real time, ensuring samples are taken accurately from the correct area while avoiding nearby blood vessels and other important structures. This makes the procedure safer and improves the quality of the samples collected compared with “blind” sampling techniques.

Common procedures include sampling of the liver, spleen, lymph nodes, abdominal masses, and certain gastrointestinal or pancreatic lesions, as well as collecting or draining fluid where needed.

Most procedures can be performed with light sedation, and samples are then sent for laboratory analysis to help reach a clear diagnosis and guide treatment
