There are several different techniques available for removing eyelid tumours and reconstructing the eyelid afterwards. The approach recommended for your pet will depend on factors such as the size and location of the tumour, the type of tumour suspected, and the individual patient.
In some cases, nearby skin can be carefully repositioned to repair the eyelid. In more complex cases, advanced reconstructive techniques may be needed to ensure the eyelid can continue to protect the eye properly and remain comfortable long term.
Occasionally, additional imaging or diagnostic tests may be recommended before surgery to help assess the extent of the tumour and guide treatment planning.
Whenever possible, we aim to use the simplest and least invasive approach, while still achieving the best functional and cosmetic outcome for your pet. Some more advanced cases may require a staged procedure carried out over two surgeries.
