High-frequency ultrasound provides excellent detail of your pet’s head and neck, allows to closely assess superficial soft tissue structures in a non-invasive way. It can often help distinguish between fluid-filled (cystic), inflammatory, or solid lesions, which is very useful when investigating lumps or swellings.
Common uses include investigating neck or jawline masses, assessing enlarged lymph nodes, evaluating salivary gland problems such as swelling or sialoceles, and examining the thyroid glands. It also allows to safely guide sampling of lumps or lymph nodes when needed to obtain a more definitive diagnosis.
