Rata's origins
Our founding vet first began to recognise the need for a visiting surgical veterinary service over a decade ago. Andrew, a highly accomplished vet from New Zealand, decided to offer his orthopaedic surgical expertise to the general practices. At the time, this was a new concept and there was a limited number of first opinion vets performing complex procedures , and not all owners were able to travel to distant referral practices for treatment.

Nowadays, we’re proud to continue growing the legacy – still registered as Rata Karahehe Ltd, meaning animal doctor in Māori. With a much larger, equally dedicated team, we are contactable 8am-7.30pm every day of the week and work across the South of England, as well as South Wales and the Midlands. 
Our expert surgeons understand the challenges of general practices and provide a friendly, amenable and professional service, with a reputation spanning 12 years. We offer a comprehensive range of orthopaedic and soft tissue surgical procedures and confidently treat complex angular limb deformities. With our own equipment, our advanced surgeons work alongside your clinical team to provide the highest quality service.
As our founder intended, Rata was built to provide independent surgical support to veterinary practices. We are here to help and are happy to evaluate and offer advice on radiographs and cases, free of charge.
